The Process

The custom portrait studio experience is vastly different from the ”one size fits all” approach you find at a chain photography store. When you commission me for your portrait photography session, I will not only create beautiful images of your family, I will guide and pamper you throughout the entire process.  You will truly enjoy the experience from start to finish.  For more detail on the custom portrait experience, please read on…

Before Your Session

All regular length sessions include a Planning and Design Meeting where we discuss your goals for your images, your decor, places in your home where you may want to hang your portrait art, clothing for your session, how to prepare, etc. The Planning and Design Meeting can take place at my studio, in your home, or even over the phone if time before your session is limited. My clients have found these meetings to be invaluable in helping them to prepare and to determine the perfect way to display the images from their session. This pre-session meeting also allows me to plan your shoot more effectively, making for a relaxed and fun experience for everyone!

During the Shoot

When you arrive at my studio for your photography session, I take care of everything. There are always delicious snacks and drinks available and a comfortable area for relaxing. For newborn sessions, I have an experienced assistant on hand to ensure the safety and comfort of your baby at all times. No matter what type of session you book, I do whatever it takes to make you and your family feel right at home in my studio.

After the session, I edit down all the images to the best ones (generally about 30-35 images for regular length sessions), and we meet again about a week or two later for your Presentation and Order Session. Using advanced presentation software, I can show you exactly what your portraits will look like on YOUR walls in the exact sizes you are considering BEFORE you place your order. In my experience, clients have a very difficult time choosing images from an online gallery – you know, life gets in the way – and may end up not doing anything with the images at all. I know that the best way I can help is to sit with my clients and cull down the images to the absolute best of the best. It’s during this meeting that you will place your portrait order.

Delivery of Your Images

After you place your order, I get to work perfecting your images, including full retouch and artistic treatment. I then use the best professional printers and framers in the business to complete your product order. Custom framed wall portraits and canvas wraps typically arrive 3 to 4 weeks after you place your order and custom designed albums take about 4 to 6 weeks. Other product delivery times vary and will be provided to you at the time of your order.

All orders are sent directly to my studio for quality assurance review. I will contact you when your order arrives to offer two alternatives for pickup dates/times. Framed wall portraits and canvases must be picked up at my studio. Albums, prints, cards, jewelry and archival digital images can be mailed directly to your home for an additional nominal postage fee.
